Dear Community,

Like many organizations, we have been reflecting on the events of the past week and the role we must play in challenging the systems and beliefs that enable racism and discrimination to persist in society.

As part of this reflection, we have examined our affiliation with other organizations. We’ve had productive conversations with some, while others have remained silent. CrossFit is one of the organizations that have remained silent. To be silent in the face of racism and discrimination, is to be complicit.  As a result of this silence, we have decided that we will no longer be affiliated with CrossFit, effective immediately.

This not a decision we made lightly. We have been contemplating disaffiliation for a myriad of reasons, but CrossFit’s lack of acknowledgement on the events of the past week, racial justice, and refusal to express solidarity with the black community is the final straw. We do not and cannot support any organization that ignores the very real and present issue of racism in both Canada and the United States.

We all must do our part, and we are actively seeking ways to change, to educate ourselves, to do better by our community, and help to dismantle the structures that allow systemic racism to occur. We invite all our members, past and present, to join the conversation. It will take a concerted effort by all of us to make the future a better place.

What does this mean for our members: Your fitness, health and general well-being is still our priority. The workouts will not change; our coaches will still strive to deliver exceptional coaching; we will still engage with the broader CrossFit and functional fitness community. You will still enjoy the same programming – it will just no longer be called CrossFit class. From a day-to-today perspective, nothing will change, except we will no longer be affiliated with CrossFit Inc.
