So spring is in the air and it’s time to dust off the old golf clubs and get ready for a brand new season on the links! I’m excited! Over the years, I’ve seen tons of golfers “warming up” before they tee off for their round. Everything from running straight from your car to the tee box to shot-gunning a beer before teeing off. None of which are actually properly warming up the body to swing a golf club.
Now I know what you’re thinking. Why do I need to warm up for a sport that’s not very physically demanding on my body? The golf swing actually is very dynamic and indeed physically demanding on your body so if you go into it cold, you’re only increasing your chances of getting injured. At the very least you’re going to feel sore the next day. This can all be avoided with a proper warmup.
Here’s a fun video Dave Zibrik and I made about proper golf warmup. The warmup we recorded doesn’t take very long at all (just over 3-minutes) but it hits every major muscle group and joints required to perform a golf swing. Notice how we do both sides of your body even the golf swing is one-sided. Balance is key. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
