Ashten Black  

“PIG” is the official gym greeter. He has worked in both public facilities and settings for the past 8+ years, offering his talents in stress reduction and snack supervision. When PIG is not working at the gym with Ashten, he is a volunteer therapy dog, improving mental health and creating opportunities for social connection. PIG enjoys bringing a moment of joy to the Engineered Bodies community.

Ashten is a personal trainer, functional fitness coach, sports nutritionist and health coach. She is passionate about health promotion and how the role of exercise and nutrition can improve a person's overall health. She also values community and connection, knowing that this improves emotional health and wellbeing. Ashten is dedicated to creating positive, inclusive health and exercise experiences for all people, of every ability and background.

Ashten has 10+ years of coaching and teaching experience in strength and conditioning, functional fitness, sports performance, and nutrition. Ashten enjoys coaching people for sustainable lifestyle change and making strength training and functional fitness approachable and accessible. She also has an extensive background in cross-training athletes (gymnastics, softball, boxing, mixed martial arts etc.) and emergency first responders.. She focuses on both training individuals, and program initiatives that create healthier communities.

Ashten has an undergraduate degree in Political Science and International Studies with a minor in Community Development and works as a health programs consultant. She is also a certified sexual health educator. Ashten has worked in northern rural and remote communities creating recreation and health initiatives, with health inclusion projects to improve health inequities for people with intellectual disabilities, and managed health literacy programs for families who support a child experiencing mental health challenges.
