Today is a great day!  Our Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey Team wins gold on the closing day in Sochi and it was one year ago today when we had our official grand opening at our training facility at Unit 4 – 2822 Spring Street in Port Moody.  We’re 1-year old today!  No one has ever created a system that uses Functional Movement Systems (FMS) movement screening as a mandatory first step for clients to go through in a CrossFit box so I really didn’t know what to expect or how anyone would respond to what I was trying to create.  I had a lot of uncertainty and anxiety during the first quarter of the year but I did my best to focus on the right things and remember what my why is for embarking on this journey in the first place.

Our first year was an absolute whirlwind of a year with a ton of evolution and growth both personally and for the business.  I also made some amazing professional connections and friendships along the way too.  I really couldn’t have asked for a more amazing start and I’m so thankful for the support of our unbelievable clients that make up our community.  Thank you all for embracing the process, for sharing what we do at the box to your friends and family, for committing and honouring yourselves to take the time to train with us as much as you can, and for giving me the opportunity to do what I love to do each day.

Here are few pictures that showcase some of the workshops and events we hosted for our community in our first year.  Click on the description of each photo if you’d like to  see more photos of each event on our Facebook page.

This year is already shaping up to be an amazing and even more successful one as our community is growing each week.  We’re also going to be offering a Yoga-only program in April that will allow clients to practice yoga exclusively at the facility.  Stay tuned for the details of this revolutionary program that requires all our clients to go through the FMS as the first step into the yoga program.

We also have many excellent workshops already scheduled for 2014 including CrossFit Endurance founder Brian MacKenzie as he is coming to coach the CFE Trainer Course April 5/6 and we’re also hosting Team Ido Portal as they come and instruct the two-day Movement X seminar May 31/June 1 for their first visit to BC.

It’s been over a year since I did a blog post so I’ll be starting that up again too.  For my next blog post, I will discuss the FMS data I’ve collected over the last year from our clientele starting from their initial FMS scores obtained in their consult to their quarterly re-screen results.  Our method of CrossFit hopes to mitigate our client’s risk to injury but still create strong movers and  the data I’ve collected shows that it’s working.
